Within HAN BioCentre and the Biobased Innovations lectorate, we would like to develop knowledge for the raw material transition (from using petroleum to renewable raw materials) that is necessary to slow down the climate change. To this end, we are looking for a Biotechnology technician.

What you will do

Your work will contribute to this knowledge development and concerns carrying out fermentation research at our laboratory in Nijmegen under the guidance of an experienced project leader and in collaboration with companies. We are specifically looking for an technician for two new projects relating to the conversion of the greenhouse gas methane with methanotrophic micro-organisms and the enzymatic pre-processing of various residual flows from agriculture and horticulture. The exact work depends on interest and experience. You can think of:

  • You carry out parts of research;
  • You analyze, interpret and report results under the supervision of the project leader;
  • Practical supervision of students.

The position is temporary for one year.

What we are looking for in you

You have a completed relevant laboratory education, at least at HBO level, have at least 2 years of work experience and preferably specialized in biotechnology. You have thorough (practical) knowledge in fermentation technology and/or enzymology, you have a hands-on mentality and have experience with troubleshooting. It is a plus if you have experience in working with biomass residual streams and biochemical analysis techniques. You are enthusiastic, flexible, result-oriented and a team player. You have good communication skills and your English speaking and writing are sufficient.

The Academy of Applied Biosciences and Chemistry trains students in Chemistry, Biology and Medical Laboratory Research, and Bioinformatics. We also have a Master Molecular Life Sciences, an Associate Degree and research in Drug Discovery, Biobased Innovations and Data Science. Our education is innovative, of high quality and shaped in close cooperation with the (international) work field. Education, research and practice come together within this academy.
